How does the VertiGreens Tower work?
Inside the reservoir at the bottom is two gallons of water, mixed with nutrient rich solution, which allows your plants to thrive in their new environment. A pump that sits in the reservoir pumps water up the middle of the tower to the top where a dispersion pod sits. This dispersion pod collected the water at the top, and trickled down the tower. This water as it comes down is nutrient rich, oxygenated water, which waters your plants on the way down! When the water reaches the bottom, the pump collects the same recycled water in the reservoir and the cycle continues forever!

What is the most important thing to look out for when growing in a VertiGreens tower?
When growing in traditional based farming methods, plants get their nutrients by searching for nutrients in the soil from decomposing organic matter, in the VertiGreens tower, nutrients are added based on growing needs. It's important to keep the Parts per Million (PPM) within an acceptable range. PPM allows you to keep track of the growing nutrient needs of the plants. It lets you know when to feed your hydroponic plants and how much food to add to the hydroponic solution. If the nutrient level is low, the plants will have stunted growth and delayed flowering. Likewise, the plants will suffer nutrient burns if the nutrient concentration is too high. Therefore, maintaining a stable PPM level is essential for healthy plant maturation. Over or underfeeding plants can have detrimental effects on their growth and health

Do I put the seeds directly in the tower? Or do only seedlings go in the tower?
While seedlings are VERY fragile and need lots of care and tending, VertiGreens recommends growing the seeds outside the tower until the first set of true leaves come in. This allows the root system to develop in the rockwool cubes further increasing the plants chances of survival. Once the seedlings grow, you can put them directly in the tower and let the tower do its thing.
Contrarily, you can also put the seeds directly in the tower and grow it that way, each tower provides the perfect living conditions to grow seedlings, so putting seeds directly in the tower will also yield great results!!

Are all Vertigreen platners and accessories all compatable with each other?
Yes! All products on the vertigreens website are compatible with each other and are able to use the three-point magnetic attachment system as well as the twist- lock system to attach planters and planter pods.
(All products in the future are all going to be compatible with older versions of the tower)

What can be grown in the VertiGreens tower?
Virtually anything! Any plant can be grown in the VertiGreens Tower. Leafy greens and all herbs are perfect for almost any hydroponic system. Vining crops like tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers grow well with the VertiGreens Tower but will take up more space and may require trellising. Melons are in the same boat— Facilitate these plants in our larger planters (one-way, two-way, and three-way planters work best)
They do just fine without soil but are large and need some support.
Most root vegetables aren’t ideal for hydroponics, except for green onions and garlic. Not recommended BUT POSSIBLE. The edible portion of the plant is on the inside of the tower which
Root vegetables are difficult to grow hydroponically because the edible portion of the crops is situated on the roots. These plants require plenty of soil for the roots to spread and grow. However, it is possible to grow root vegetables hydroponically with some effort. Since the root systems are quite extensive, they are bound to take up a lot of space inside the tower. You’ll be allocating far a lot of space for their development.

Most Common Trouble Shooting Issues
The pump is not pushing enough water to the top
Each pump comes with a valve that allows for water flow to be adjusted. Turn the flow valve and test to see if enough water is reaching the top of the tower.
Alternatively, the pump can become clogged with debris which can restrict water flow.
Unplug the pump and take it apart to check for any debris, make sure to check the tubing that leads to the top of the tower as this tube can also get clogged.
If this still doesn't resolve it, please reach out to our 24/7 North American customer service VertiGreens@Outlook.com
The Dispersion Pod doesn't distribute water evenly throughout the entire tower
Over time, the holes at the top that evenly distribute the water can become clogged with debris or calcium buildup.
In this case, taking a toothpick and clearing out the holes of any buildup
Alternatively, a quick clean with and food-safe cleaning products (hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and vinegar, etc.) and warm water should remove any debris that might be clogging the vertical system.
Most Common Questions
-
How do I prevent algae growth in the tower?
Algae, like with aquariums and any humid and sunny areas, will develop algae if the right conditions are present
Algae grows in the presence of sun and humidity, limiting the amount of sun that finds itself inside the tower will slow down and prevent algae growth
Make sure all the pod slots are closed with plants, so no sun enters the tower, frequently clean the tower to stop the exponential growth of algae
-
How often should I change the water of my tower?
A healthy rule of thumb is to change the reservoir water once every 1-2 weeks, adjusting the correct TDS and PH.
-
Are Vertipods reusable?
Yes of course, the pods are reusable and can be cleaned and used with different plants whenever you would like
-
How tall can I make one VertiGreens tower?
The pump that is included has a maximum lift of 7ft, this translates to about a maximum on 8-10 planter modules on a single tower, after that, the pump might have trouble moving water to the top of the tower
-
How much nutrient solution do I add to the water?
Learn moreThe amount of nutrient solution depends on what you're growing as different plants require different levels of nutrients, please check our growing guide for specific PPM and Ph levels
Please see out growing guide for more details
-
How much produce can a VertiGreens tower produce?
It all depends on what you are trying to grow!
***For example: One household in North America consumes about 8 pounds of strawberries per year. With VertiGreens, you can grow up to 60 pounds of strawberries per year in a 1 square foot area, using only one strawberry plant that produces 1.5 pounds per year and 40 slots in the tower. Alternatively, a farmer would need 850 square feet of land to produce the same amount of strawberries (which would cost $3,401 per month to rent in Toronto).***
